He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard "Pinky" Carpenter and Kathryn Carpenter (Huff); his brother Larry Carpenter; his son-in-law Randy Rutledge; and his grandchildren-in-law, Sarah Carpenter and Cody Williamson.
He is survived by: his wife Claudia Carpenter of Danville, IL; his children, Scott Carpenter (Penney) of Cayuga, IN and Kim Rutledge of Champaign, IL; his grandchildren, Kyle Carpenter (Andrea), Tyler Carpenter (Crissy), Caleb Carpenter (CeCe), Charlene Walters (Heather), Colby Nelson (Luke), Clayton Barton (Nallely), Colton Barton (Lauren), Jimmy Rutledge (Taylor), Andy Rutledge (Morgan) and Katie Williamson; and his great grandchildren, Lenny, Clayton, Westen, Maddie, Ashtyn, Mariana, Mateo, Margot, Joanna, Vivian, Rowan and Leah. He is also survived by his family, especially attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
