He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin L. Pate and Wilma A. Pate (Whightsil); and his siblings, Samuel D. Pate, Raymond H. Pate, Sr. and Catherine J. Pate.
He is survived by: his wife Maria Pate of Decatur; his children, Gary L. Pate Jr. of Springfield, IL and Jacquelyn Duies (James) of Seattle, WA; his brothers, Benjamin Leo Pate (Cheryl) of Oreana, IL and Bob Taylor of Tuscola, IL; and his grandpuppy Jake Duies. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home - Decatur (2827 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526). A prayer will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home (2827 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (570 N Union St, Decatur, IL 62522). A burial will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at the Fairlawn Cemetery (2091 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526).
Memorials in Gary's honor may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or Cancer Care Specialist of Illinois.
