He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Eugene Sutherland Sr. and Susan "Sue" Strong Sutherland; and his siblings, Jack Sutherland Jr. (Doris), Jim Sutherland and Judy Gentry (Mike).

He is survived by: his son Jake; and his sibling's children, Aimee Bradshaw (Larry), Melissa Cohen, Jody Gentry, Mark Sutherland (Casey), Jeffrey Gentry (Holly) and David Gentry (Catherine).

Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Et Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home (2091 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, September 17th 2025 at the Graceland Cemetery (2091 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, IL 62526).

“Jerry or Jake as we called him was my favorite person to care for he was so full of love he would sing to me when he saw me and he would call me the girl of the hour when I walked in the room occasionally he would ask to dance or for a hug and i always would he would sit and ramble with me and eat his favorite snack which was fig newtons and its not gonna be the same without him im glad he didnt pass alone as I was there holding his hand and telling him how loved he was up till the very end”
