He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Thomas (Johnson); his children, Michael Maxwell (Tricia) of DeKalb, IL, Noel Newton (Sonja) of Rockford, IL, Paulette Thayer (Robert) and Danielle La Rosa of Florida; his grandchildren, Avery, Carter Maxwell, Zoe, Wyatt Newton, Adysen Whigham (Joseph), Steven Thayer (Kielynn), Lacey, Joshua, Nicholas and Kyla La Rosa; his niece Ashley Guzzardo (Sean); his brother Michael Douglas Thomas of Washington; and his siblings-in-law, Gerald and Marilyn Johnson of Joliet, IL..
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21st 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the DeKalb Elks Lodge 209 (209 S Annie Glidden Rd, DeKalb, IL 60115).
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up in his name and will be awarded to a Genoa Kingston High School senior who plans to major in music.
