He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence A. Garbe and Myra I. Garbe (Pardieck); his siblings-in-law, Robert J. Wendling and Patricia Garbe; and his parents-in-law, Carl and Lucille Parks.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Garbe of Dieterich, Illinois; his sons, Brad Garbe (Dana) of Mason and Brian Garbe (Lisa) of Carterville, Illinois; his grandsons, Grant Garbe, Austin Garbe (Carina) and Ethan Garbe; his stepgrandchildren, Gretchen Bright (James), Kurt Thull (Laura) and Zach Thull (Hillary); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Jorie, Keeley, Everly Bright, Drake, Elliot Thull, Noah and Nash Thull; and his siblings, Ernest Garbe of Dieterich and Norma Wendling of Effingham, Illinois. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Saint John Lutheran Church (22775 County Rd 700 N, Dieterich, IL 62424). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the Dieterich Village Cemetery (103 E Section St, Dieterich, IL 62424).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dieterich Community Education Foundation, Lutheran Care Center, and Community Support System.
