He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph P. Pettinger and Mary Pettinger (Sesterhenn); his wife Clara Gibson; and his brother Jude Pettinger. He is survived by: his children, Mary Smith of Oregon, William Pettinger (Beverly) of Birch Tree, MO and Lois Dober (Randy) of Dixon; and his grandchildren, Sara Murphy (Jon) of New Braunfels, TX, Cheryl Smith of Dixon, Amanda Ganze (Justin) of Dixon, Ashley Dober of Dixon, Joshua Becker-Dober (Natalia) of San Diego, CA, Will Pettinger (Tiffany) of Oregon, Amy Pettinger of Champaign and Jace Pettinger of Des Moines, IA. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Granny Rose Animal Shelter in Dixon or Happy Tails in Rock Falls.
