He was loved and cherished by many people including: former spouse: Sheila Kelly Ames; children: Kelly (Alan) Smith, Shannon (Brian) Irwin, and Bill (Michelle) Ames; grandchildren: Peter, Everleigh, Annie, Finn, Beckett, Ruby, and Will; sisters: Judy (Mike) Ehlerman, Chris (Ray) DeCarlo, and Suzi (Scott) Sullivan; parents: William "David" and Rosemary Ames.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21st 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Ltd. (1033 Franklin Grove Rd, Dixon, IL 61021). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church (612 Highland Ave, Dixon, IL 61021).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David's memory to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, 4130 Northwest Boulevard, Davenport, IA 52806.
