He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnnie M Lappin Sr. and Edna June Lappin Sr. (Garner); and his sister Karen Lappin Carpenter. He is survived by: his daughters, Rachel Lappin of Alton and Kelly Lappin (Matthew Eberlin) of Vernon, CT; his stepson Michael Abbott of Jerseyville; his granddaughters, Maelin Abbott, Makala Lappin and Alexis Eberlin; his siblings, Marilyn Hughes (Don), Kristen Elwood (Charles Reed) and David Lappin; and his brother-in-law William "Bill" Carpenter. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, special aunts, uncles and cousins.
