We announce the death of Joyce Elaine Cobin of Dowell, Illinois, who passed away on October 21, 2026, at the age of 90. Joyce will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Arnold Preston and Sybil Juanita Doctorman (Carter); her husband James Richard Cobin; and her brother Arnold Glenn Doctorman. She is survived by: her daughters, Charity Lynn Newborn (Shawn) of Dowell and Rebecca Lopez (Nicholas) of Elkville; her grandchildren, Shelby Ellis (Philip) of Elkville, Shawna Ellett (Kody) of Vergennes, Jonathan Cavins (Hannah) of Pinckneyville and Jordan Cavins (Alyssa) of Du Quoin; her great grandchildren, Caylie Wink, Alise Cavins, Averie Cavins, Carter Cavins, Delilah Ellis, Evie Elaine Ellett, Caroline Ellis and Rhett James Ellis; her sister Cheryl Lynn Cobin (Charles Jr.) of Du Quoin; and her siblings-in-law, Laverne Rees (Jamie) of Murphysboro and Jane Gray of Ava. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Searby Funeral Home (130 S Washington St, Du Quoin, IL 62832). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Friends may make memorials to Elkville First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
