He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Sommer and Elizabeth Sommer; and his siblings, James Sommer (Janice) and Patricia Newey (Paul). He is survived by: his wife Carol Sommer; his children, Robert Sommer (Sarah), Timothy Sommer (Jennifer) and Jill Sommer; his grandchildren, Juliana and Noah; and his siblings, Joseph Sommer (Nan) and Janice Sommer.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home & Cremation Services (4343 Main St, Downers Grove, IL 60515). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home (4343 Main St, Downers Grove, IL 60515). A Mass will be held on Thursday, May 29th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the St. Mary of Gostyn Parish (445 Prairie Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515).
