He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Colleen Hays; his children, Sarah Ortega (Gabriel), Stephanie Givens (Peter) and John W. II Hays (Jacqueline); his grandchildren, Aila, Maverick Ortega, Cecilia, Gabriel Givens and Vivienne Hays; his father-in-law Rufus Gonzales (late Cecelia); his siblings-in-law, Deborah Howell (Jim), Carol Dykema (Gary), Gail Wallace (Scott), Mary Plotke (Jerry) and Rufus Gonzales-Hebson (Ed); his grandmother Myrtle "Nana" Woodward; and his cousins, Barbara, Kim Burbank and Bill Schaper (Marianne). He was also cherished by Dad to his children, their spouses, and Grampa/Papa Doc to his five grandchildren.
