James Wayne Penson Obituary
We announce the death of James Wayne Penson of Du Quoin, Illinois, who passed away on October 15, 2026, at the age of 78. James will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Eddie Arlin "Pete" and Hazel Marie Sharp (Varnell); his daughter Rachel Penson; and his stepdaughter Melissa Clinton. He is survived by: his wife Viola June Penson (Downs) of Du Quoin; his children, Jimmy Penson of Du Quoin and Dorcas Penson of Du Quoin; his stepdaughters, Jeanette Shepard of Townley and Sherry Pyle of Percy; his grandchildren, Trenton Brown (Leah), Kelvin Penson (Calley), Troy Brown, Alexis Colbert (Elijah), Corena Deitch, Jonathon Patton (Samantha), Brandon Patton (Angel), Dustin Snider (Brianna), Brandi Snider (Troye), Megan Carson (Jake) and Shane Clinton; and his siblings, Wilma Lemonds of Arkansas and Eddie Sharp (Ann). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the United Pentecostal Church. A funeral service was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Quoin Cemetery (8686 Old State Rte 14, Du Quoin, IL 62832).
