He was predeceased by: his parents, Esther Best (Brinker) and Oscar L. Best. He is survived by: his cousin Peter; his wife Mary E. Van Etten; his nephews, Ronald Best and Robert Deckard; his sister-in-law Marge Best; and his sibling's children, Deanna Best Ralston, Virginia Best Bender, Jerry Hatton, Royce Hatton, Harlan Hatton, Carrie Prell Thorne, Lettie Prell, Joyce Deckard Anderson, Linda Deckard Darden, Dennis Deckard, Luanne Deckard Siliamaa and Jean Best Cash. He is also survived by spouses and their children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Durand School (200 W South St, Durand, IL 61024). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 8th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in his honor either to the Durand Gold Star American Legion or the Durand High School.
