He was predeceased by: his parents, Leander Merfeld and Gila Merfeld (Garber) of Marble Rock, IA.; his wife Eva Espiriti; his son Daniel; his siblings, Rose, Richard and Ken; his father-in-law Ricardo Espiriti; his in-laws, Fran Stadler and Ted Leaver; and his sister-in-law Myrna Merfeld.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard L. Merfeld (JoAnn) of Tucson, AZ and Robert R. Merfeld (Jason) of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Merfeld of Madison, WI; his grandchildren, Taylor Merfeld (Gwen), Lauryn M. Merfeld, Jenna L. Merfeld and Berkley A. Welsh; his great grandchildren, Raymond M. Merfeld, Dawn M. Merfeld, Mary L. Merfeld, Lily E. Merfeld and Eden E. Merfeld; his siblings, Mary Jeanne of Fruita, Colorado and Roger (Edi) of Rockford, IA; and his sister-in-law Rita Merfeld of Greene, IA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
