He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Schmidt and Arlene Schmidt (Ehlert); his brother Dean; his sister-in-law Jane; his mother-in-law Helen Young; his nieces, Coleen and Lynn Blake; and his nephew-in-law Jeff Wade.

He is survived by: his children, Eric Schmidt (Josie) and Jennifer Stoner (Ben); his grandchildren, Eric, Lauren, Adam Schmidt, Amelia and Lilah Stoner; his wife Lois Schmidt (Young); his sister-in-law Faye Blake; his niece Denise Blake (Dan Hiatt); his nephew-in-law John Rauch; and his cousin Sue Huber.

“I was lucky to know Mr. Schmidt when I was in theatre program at Crystal lake south! I always learned a lot from him when we were building sets for all the productions! Even after I graduated, I try to see some of the plays and when I do always see him sitting with the family and I try to say hi to him. When I do it’s always with a kind smile! It always warms my heart that he still remembers me after 20 yrs! You will be missed! And I’m sorry to the family for your loss!”
