It is with sadness that the passing of Ava J. Cothran of Effingham, Illinois is shared. Ava, born on March 13, 1958, passed away on August 31, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her father Lawrence Williamson; her parents-in-law, Willard and Barbara Cothran; her brother-in-law David Swingler; and her grandchildren, Katelynn and Wilson Palmer.
She is survived by: her mother Ruth Williamson (Smith); her husband David Cothran of Effingham; her son Rex Buchanan (Tammy); her stepchildren, Michael Cothran of Effingham, Marissa Palmer (Tom) of Effingham and Matthew Cothran of Effingham; her siblings, Jill Swingler, Bea Wendte (Dave) of Effingham, Lora Williamson of Springfield, Jody Williamson of Chicago and Joe Williamson (Danette) of Effingham; her grandchildren, Seth, Abby, Connor Cothran, Aidan, Mia, Oliver Palmer, Anthony, Bryante (Karie) and Cheyenne Downey; and her great grandchildren, Willow, Brooklyn, Bentlee, William and Violette. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews she loved.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home (1110 N 4th St, Effingham, IL 62401). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
