He is survived by: his children, Julie Pownall (Ryan) of Russiaville, Kelly Weingardt (Ryan) of Missoula, MT, Kevin (Dorrina) of Avon and Joel of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Noah (Emma), Christian, Anna, Ashlyn Pownall, Zach Niemerg, Avery and Olivia Weingardt; and his siblings, Nancy Deters (Dan) of Sigel, Joan Buzzard (Tom) of Effingham, Janice Niemerg of Effingham and Gary Niemerg of Effingham.

Per Carl's wishes, his body was donation for scientific study at the SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale.
