It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hilda M. Shumaker of Effingham, Illinois, who passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Hilda M. Shumaker to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Jesse Higgs and Birdie Higgs (Smith); her siblings, Melvin Higgs (Mary), Leavitt Higgs, Wanda, Orra'Lafey'Phillips, Pauline Vail (Kenneth), Jessie Hooks (Charles) and Christine Wilcox; and her close friend Keith Field.
She is survived by: her children, Alan Shumaker (Joyce) of Mason, Marian Fulk (Tim) of Farina, Carol Hardiek (Matthew) of Newton, Carla Buhrmann (Henry, Jr.) of Mason and Pamela Hienen (Miles) of Louisiana; and her sister-in-law Edie Higgs of Altamont. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, September 15th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Gieseking Funeral Home (208 N 2nd St, Altamont, IL 62411). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
