He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Henry and Emma K. Wittenberg (Schultz); his brothers, George, John, Glen, Clarence, Raymond and Paul; and his grandmother Ferchow (Ella Marie Falk).

He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his daughter Susan Kessler (Kevin) of Stewardson; his granddaughters, Casey Trupiano (Johnny) and Karly Frohning (Alex); his great grandchild Nolan Frohning of Effingham; his stepgranddaughters, Karsyn Kessler of Arthur and Katlyn Doty (Nathan) of Stewardson; and his stepgreat-granddaughter Kenley Doty.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church of Effingham, Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson, or the American Cancer Society.
