It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael David Pierson of Effingham, Illinois, who passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. As we bid farewell to this luminous soul, let his loved ones carry forward the torch of his memory, illuminating the path ahead with the warmth of his love and the brilliance of his spirit. Though Michael may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, his essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being — a guiding light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in the night.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Pierson (Mickey) and Jeanne Pierson (Dolinshek); and his great-uncle Bill Pierson. He is survived by: his wife Janet Pierson (Jansen); and his siblings, Janet Johnson (Barry) of Windsor, CO, Tom (Nancy) of Elwood, IL, Paul (Renee) of Evanston, IL and Jeff (Lisa) of Joliet, IL.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; in addition to many cousins.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 23rd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (405 S Henrietta St, Effingham, IL 62401).
His wish was to leave this world without too much hoopla, so in lieu of flowers and gifts, those wishing to memorialize his name may do so by making a donation to Community Support Systems, 618 W. Main Street, Teutopolis, IL 62467, an organization about which he was very passionate – enough so, that he would put on his Santa suit early Christmas morning to visit many local group homes, enjoying handing out candy canes.
