It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Michael Linus Hartke of Effingham, Illinois, who passed away on September 27, 2025, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Alphonse Hartke and Sophia Hartke (Hank); his siblings, Elvira Verdeyen, Mary Lou Vahling, Gerald "Jerry" Hartke, Francis "Frank" Hartke and Charles "Chuck" Hartke; his brothers-in-law, Roy Wakefield, John Verdeyen, Arlen Clayton and Don Apke; his in-laws, Carl and Mary Ann Althoff (Schmidt); and his sisters-in-law, Jane Althoff and Barbara "Barb" Fuesting (Andrew "Andy" Fuesting).
He is survived by: his wife Eileen (Althoff); his children, Kirk Hartke (Emily), Deana Nuxoll (Greg) and Carl Hartke (Erin); his grandchildren, Megan Bierman (Nick), Kyle Hartke (Katelyn Lybarger), Jack Nuxoll (Bridget), John Hartke, Grant Nuxoll, Kate Hartke, Addison Nuxoll, Amelia Hartke and Andrew Hartke; and his great grandchild Henry Bierman.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home (1110 N 4th St, Effingham, IL 62401). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 at 10:30 AM at the St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (101 E Virginia Ave, Effingham, IL 62401).
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be made to the St. Anthony Booster Club or Catholic Charities.
