Richard Carl ("R.C." "Pops" "Rick") Rakes Obituary

Richard Carl Rakes, 51, of Orlando, FL better known to those around him as “Pops”, ”R.C.”, and “Rick” passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 19th, 2017 in Effingham, Illinois. He died while he was away doing what he loved; driving his big semi-truck across the country and eating the unhealthiest plates of food you can ever imagine followed by a refreshing cold Budweiser, soda and shot of Jack.
Born September 5th, 1966 in a city were all not 100% sure of in Ohio of Parents Mary Gray of Defiance, Ohio and Vernon Rakes of Big Creek, West Virginia. He was raised in Oakwood and Paulding, Ohio where he made memories and got into lots of trouble with his friends who he called family. Big Red or Rick as they called him was a tall skinny red head that loved the ladies. He later moved to Orlando, Florida where he made and raised his family.
R.C. enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, BBQ’ing and teaching others different skills and talents he learned along the years. Hobby’s included playing Bubble Witch Saga and scrolling on Facebook. His happiest of moments were spent surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He spent most of his working years as security in local nightclubs, in the construction industry, automotive and tow-trucking business and final years driving semi-trucks all over the USA. He was seriously a jack-of-all trades, master of none.

Richard is survived by his Fiancé, Mary Aggar; children, Kayla (Craig) Carson, Chelsea (George) Brown, Michael Rakes and Ronald Deiter; grandchildren, Jose Massanet, Christian Massanet, Conner Brown, Julie Deiter, Jordan Brown and Gabriella Carson; mother, Mary Gray; brother, Michael (Pearl) Rakes; sisters, Tonya (James) Huss and Amanda (Chad) Rakes-Rutter; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; a lot of children by love; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Rakes.

Cremation arrangements by Lockart-Green Funeral Home 302 W. Main St. Shelbyville, IL 62565 assisted family with returning him home.

The family asks that you spend time with your family, love one another and never take life too seriously unless it’s your health. In that case, follow what your body tells you and take care of yourself.

In lieu of flowers, tune-up your car, check the air in your tires and make sure to never run out of gas – he would have wanted that.

In loving memory of a beloved and funny Father, Papaw, Father-In-Law, Fiancé, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. He was not a rich man but he had a rich life. He touched all of us with is never-ended wisdom, kindness and humor. He did not deserve the passing he received by dying alone at a truck stop in the middle of nowhere, but I do find comfort in knowing he is now with the Lord. Rest in Peace Dad, I know you will be reuniting with those that have left us far too soon.
