With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Virginia Ruth Whitley of Effingham, Illinois, who passed away on February 25, 2026 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Hooten and Geneva Hooten; her husband George L. Whitley; her parents-in-law, George F. Whitley and Gladys Whitley; her siblings-in-law, Lyle Whitley, Winnie Whitley and Gary Shaw; and her son-in-law David Tieffel.
She is survived by: her daughters, Lavonne Ring (Bob) of Effingham, Diane Tieffel of Effingham and Darla Miller (Kurt) of Troy, IL.; her grandchildren, Natalie Stortzum (Kyle), Kristen Kreke (Trent), Holly Wallace (Jeff), Ryan Tieffel (Ashley), Christopher Miller (Jessica Polson) and Eric Miller; her great grandchildren, Brady, Addysen, Isley Stortzum, Olivia, Elizabeth, Matthew Kreke, Jordan, Hannah, Gavin, Macey Wallace, Kennedy, Kinsley, Kohen Tieffel, Asher and Ansel Miller; and her sister Wanda Shaw.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
