He was predeceased by: his parents, George Barkei and Margaret Barkei (Konen); his nephew Tom McLean; his nieces, Kathy Colombo and Alyssa Perna; and his siblings-in-law, Larry Cherco, Julie Phillips, Wendy Perna, Leah Perna and Kari Perna.

He is survived by: his wife Kathleen "Kathy" Perna; his children, Brittany Kitzmiller, Courtney Nelson (Ben), Rachel Balles (Tim), Breanne Johnson (Demetrius) and Jared Barkei; his grandchildren, Eric, Nathan Kitzmiller, Grace, Jacob Nelson, Vivian, Jack Balles, Chyna, Tre, Brooklynn Johnson, Dylan, Domenic and Daniel Barkei; his siblings, Rodney Barkei (Patricia) and Shirley McLean (Michael); and his siblings-in-law, Jane Cherco, Kent Phillips, Steve Perna, Matt Perna, Chris Perna (Stephanie) and Adam Perna (Niki). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
