He was predeceased by : his parents, Claude Calhoun and Daisy Mae Shirley; his wife Tammy Shirley; his son Justin Shirley; his grandson Silas Shirley; and also, Claude and Daisy.

He is survived by : his children, Joshua Shirley (Gary Lee Dunning), Ashley Shirley of Eldorado and Crystal Dolden of Eldorado; and his siblings, Vicki Cantrell, Donnie Grimes, Tracey Shirley, Wendy Hammond, Steve Holding and Tony Holding. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
