He was predeceased by: his parents, Freida and Joseph; and his brothers, James and Gordon. He is survived by: his wife Karen; his daughters, Janet Gavelek (Bob), Marcy Brawner (Chuck) and Nancy Rager; his grandchildren, Brad Gavelek (Jessica), Gina Gavelek and Kendall Willis (Jordan); and his great grandchildren, James Willis and Haylie Gavelek.
