He was predeceased by : his parents, Eaphrim Small and Lillian Cook Small; his former life partner Margaret Wilson; his wife Joyce Rhoades; and his siblings, Joanne and James.

He is survived by : his children, Lissa Small of South Dakota and Mark Small (Jamie) of Mackinaw; his grandchildren, Bruce Weihsmantel of Minneapolis, MN, Christopher Small of Mackinaw, Douglas Small (Amanda) of O'Fallon, MO and Taylor Small of Mackinaw; and his sister Connie Bauer of Andover, MN.. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Joni and Friends, or Christian Motorcycle Association-Run for The Son.
