He is survived by: his wife Maria Laracuente-Ast; his children, Steve Ast (Leanne), Elisa Ast Schmitz (Dieter Schmitz) and Kathy Ast; and his grandchildren, C. J. and Brooke. He is also survived by several nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name can be made to: St. Athanasius Parish and School, where John was a parishioner for more than 60 years, and his three children and three of his grandchildren attended grade school. St. John Henry Newman Parish, St. Athanasius School, Alzheimer's Association.
