With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Phyllis Kay Michels of Evanston, Illinois, who passed away on August 1, 2023 at the age of 85. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was loved and cherished by many people including : her parents, Cletus Smith and Helen "Polly" Smith; her children, Kim Michels Preis and Clark "Mike" Michels; her son-in-law Warren Preis; her granddaughters, Lillian "Lilly' and Clare Preis of Chicago; and her husband Clark Michels.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com), which provides free books to children in countries around the world, and/or the Obama Youth Jobs Corps, which provides professional support to Chicago high school students, in honor of Kay's years as an educator and advocate for youth.
