He was predeceased by: his parents, Norris Ellis and Esta Ellis (Simon); his wife Margaret Ruth Ellis; his son Ronnie Ellis; and his siblings, Delbert Ellis and Geneva Gregory.

He is survived by: his children, Glenda Bennett (Bruce) of Marion, Jerry Ellis (Sharon) of Statesville, NC and Pam Caudle (Gary) of Fairfield; and his close friend Darlene Gifford of Fairfield. He is also survived by four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great-great-grandson.

Memorials may be made to Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen and will be accepted at the Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
