With solemn reverence, we commemorate James F. Hammel of Freeburg, Illinois, born in Red Bud, Illinois, whose life came to an end on December 8, 2025 at the age of 72, leaving behind cherished memories. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Hammel and Ethel Hammel; his son Joshua James Hammel; and his brother Mike Hammel. He is survived by: his wife Pamela Volner; his siblings, Peg Sher of St. Louis, MO, Tom Hammel (Linda) of Millstadt, IL, Christine Brannon (Jim) of Liberty Lake, WA and Dan Hammel (Sheri) of Waterloo, IL; and his brother-in-law Rick Volner. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. John United Church of Christ (301 S Market St, New Athens, IL 62264). A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to the Freeburg Care Center Activities Fund or Vitas Hospice.
