Jody Lynn Deal Obituary

Jody Lynn Deal, age 74, of Freeman Spur, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 2:05 pm at Herrin Hospital.

Jody was born May 18, 1949 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Glenn and Dorothy Carol (Russell) Ashby. She married the love of her life, Roy William Deal on March 30, 1996 in Reno, Nevada and together they shared over 25 years of marriage until his death on August 13, 2021.

Jody retired as a respiratory therapist. She loved to play bingo, read and crochet. Jody enjoyed mowing her yard and going to the Fin & Feather Gun Club. She treasured the companionship of her dogs and cats.

She is survived by four children, Marnie (Shawn) Clark of Bakersfield, CA, Rory (Craig) Koelzer of Bakersfield, CA, Dorian Swigart (Sara Gauldoni) of Herrin, and Marvin (Michelle) Swigart of Freeman Spur; her Nine Grandchildren, Marquise, Kristi, Paige, Sara, Zeth, Devon, Brenden, Cameron and Dana; Great Grandchildren Christian, Lily, and Hudson, her siblings, Debbie Ashby of Herrin, Glenn Ashby of KY, Kathy Ashby, her caregiver and close friend Nadine Rogers.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, husband Roy William Deal and three siblings, Glenda Rodriguez, Jamie Laurell and Shea Laurell.

Graveside Service will be held Monday, March 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Herrin City Cemetery with Rev. Keith Owens officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with arrangements.
