He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Matre and Kathryn Van Matre (Stevens); and his brother Donald Van Matre. He is survived by: his wife Florence Van Matre of Freeport; his children, Taisha Ruegsegger (John Wuethrich) of Monroe, Brittany (Derek Morgan) of Monroe, Joseph of Monroe, Caleb Ruegsegger of Monroe and Charles "Buddy" Poaha (Karen) of Freeport; his grandchildren, Tasha, Amber Rae, Micheal Van Matre (Becky), Mikayla, Kiera, Teagan, Kevin Van Matre (Jaime) of Jacksonville, Isaiah and Kaiden; his brother David Van Matre (Linda) of Freeport; and his great grandchild Alaia.
