He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Dammann and Harriet Dammann (Jacobs); and his siblings, Elsie, Charlene, Willis and Carl.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Grossenbacher of Dakota; his daughter Laurie Ruthe (Dennis) of Freeport; his grandchildren, Jennifer Mazanek (Reid) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jordan Ruthe of Sterling, VA; his close friend Delbert Carley of Freeport; and his friend Doctor Michael Merry.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
