James Fernstaedt Obituary
With sadness, we share the passing of James Fernstaedt in Freeport, Illinois. James, born on January 18, 1942, passed away on September 19, 2026. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Fernstaedt and Anna Fernstaedt (Hastings); his sister Blanche; his sister-in-law Vicki Fernstaedt; his son-in-law Bob Makos; and his parents-in-law, Lyle and Betty Vick.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Grenoble (Vick); his children, Terri Makos-Swigart (Gary), Deb Hamilton (Tim), Anita Mau (Mark), Dan Fernstaedt (Stacy), Jody Kubat (Scott) and Roger Grenoble (Christy); and his siblings, David Fernstaedt, Tom Fernstaedt (Judy) and Barb Barkau (Jim). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Thursday, October 1st 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1st 2026 at 11:00 AM at the St. Johns Lutheran Church (625 Country Ln Dr, Lena, IL 61048).
