With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Joseph B. Coates of Freeport, Illinois, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion H. Coates and Eloise M Coates (Leitzen); and his brother Bobby Coates. He is survived by: his wife Mary of Mary's Catholic Church; his stepson Jim Hartman (Lora); his grandchildren, Samantha Hartman (Paige Tessendorf), Jimmy Hartman (Cassie), Danielle Lydon (Tom) and Shawna Zimmerman (Daniel); and his siblings, Gary Coates, Luann Coates and Jackie Stocker (Mark). He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Burke-Tubbs Funeral Homes - Freeport (504 N Walnut Ave, Freeport, IL 61032). A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens (2514 IL-26, Freeport, IL 61032).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a future donation.
