He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Mechling and Mildred Mechling (Straub); his wife Doris "Tootie" Mechling; and his brother Lynn. He is survived by: his children, Scott Mechling (Brooke) of Lake Summerset, Tammy Scudder (Andy) of Freeport and Kelly Albrecht (Brian) of Winnebago. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in Leonard's memory.
