He was predeceased by: his parents, Maudie Cropp (William Shelton) and Charles; his wife Jeannie Walker Shelton; and his siblings, Stella Wray, Bessie Holman, Florine Dixon, Jackie Bryant, Wilford Moore and Raymond Cropp.
He is survived by: his children, Yolanda Sanders (Edward), Lisa Chavis (John), Charles A. Shelton, Eric Shelton, Joan Shelton (Carlos), Jean Joyce (Joseph) and Melvin Dickerson; and his brothers, Lewis Shelton and Ronald Shelton. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
