With heavy hearts, we announce the death of John Whitson of Galesburg, Illinois, who passed away on August 13, 2025 at the age of 96. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Whitson and Sudie Elizabeth Whitson (Johnson); his wife Sandy Whitson (Peterson); his siblings, Audley Whitson and Leone Young; and his granddaughter Arika Ayres.
He is survived by: his children, Mike Whitson (Diana) of Galesburg, Cathy Ayres of Galesburg, Lisa Rogan of Galesburg, Jeff Whitson (Stephanie) of Columbia and Michele Smith (Dan) of North Liberty, Iowa; his grandchildren, Lauren Rogan, Alexa Ayres (Megan), William Rogan (Amber), Alex Whitson, Zach Whitson and Jacob Smith; his great grandchild Isabella Rogan; and his sisters, Jackie White, Julie Headford, Georgia Wendland, Janice Firmand and Cleda Eddy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
