He was predeceased by: his parents, William E. Tate and Evelyn M. Tate; and his brother William M. Tate. He is survived by: his wife Brenda; his brother David Tate of Galesburg; and his cousin Nancy Parish of Knoxville. He is also survived by 2 nieces and 2 nephews, children, 4 great nieces and nephews, 3 stepdaughters and 5 step grandchildren.
