He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Cal" Thompson and Doris Thompson (Shatterman); his wife Cheryl Thompson; his children, Nicole Roberts and Michael Thompson; and his sister Pat Lindsey.

He is survived by: his daughter Christine Fiems (Joe) of Colona; his grandchildren, Joseph DeKezel (Kylie) of Cambridge, CJ DeKezel (Tawny) of Cambridge, Dakota DeKezel (Baylie) of Cambridge, Meagan Anderson (Brandon) of Cambridge and Joseph Fiems (Ali) of Moline, IL; his niece Melissa Digneo; and his nephew Todd Riley. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.
