He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph O'Connell and Lydia O'Connell (Gerber); his wife Miriam Marie O'Connell; and his brother Charles O'Connell. He is survived by: his children, Michael O'Connell, Des Moines, John O'Connell Jr., Glenn O'Connell (Michelle), Bondurant, Linda Knuth (Darren) and Genoa; his grandchildren, Joseph O'Connell (Jim Giusto), Schaumburg, Murphy O'Connell Austin (Ty), Des Moines, Morgan Campbell (Alex), Elkhart, Griffin O'Connell, Bondurant, Laura Regnery (Cole) and Samuel Knuth (Jessica); his great grandchildren, Sophie Campbell, Sawyer Campbell, Stryker Campbell, Sander Campbell and Jonathan Regnery; and his sisters, Adeline Gilbert, Scottsdale and Ann Sells (Perry). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Moss-Norris Funeral Home (100 S 3rd St, St. Charles, IL 60174). A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 18th 2026 at 3:30 PM at the Greenfields of Geneva (0N801 Friendship Way, Geneva, IL 60134).
