He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Whitler and Nell Whitler (Shroyer); and his siblings, Robert, Victor, Hal Whitler and Evelyn Hinkle.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Irene Lair; and his children, Cindy Smith, Jennifer Elders (Kenny) of Girard, IL and Richard Whitler, II (Danielle) of Columbia, MO. He is also survived by two grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the First Christian Church (700 W Center St, Girard, IL 62640). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 at the Girard Cemetery.
