He was predeceased by: his parents, William T. (Magdalen) and Frank (Marie Murrah); his siblings, Harriette Breslin (John), Margaret Biang (Warren) and William Sommers (Phyllis); his brother-in-law James Purtell; and his goddaughter Jane McCrea (Biang).

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ella Sommers; his children, Cindy Munson (Steve), Anne Pauls (Bill), Mary Provenzano, Donna Sliney, Judith Sommers, Tom Sommers (Susan), Gretchen Flynn (Desmond) and Dan Sommers (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Erik, John Munson (Casey), Taylor (Melissa), Maggie, Jacob (Kathleen), Tom Pauls, Seamus (Veronica), Daniel King, Rose Howell (Matt), Paige Sliney, Nathan, Brian Piasecki (Jessica), Matthew (Ananya), Christopher, Stephanie Sommers, Colin, Timothy Flynn, Will, Ella and Lauren Sommers; his great grandchild Anthony Sommers; and his sister Elizabeth Purtell.
