He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph E. Bernheisel and Leona L. Bernheisel (Sieger); and the mother of his children Barbara J. Bernheisel (Black). He is survived by: his wife Donna Bernheisel (Roblee); his children, John Bernheisel, Daniel Bernheisel (Laurie), Sharon Bernheisel and Michael Bernheisel (Shannon); his stepchildren, Donna Severs, Tammy Wells (Joe), April McGuire (Rob) and William Starr (Kim); and his brother David Bernheisel (Norine). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family.
