He was predeceased by: his former wife Elsie Appelt; and his sister Ruth Juetersonke Lense. He is survived by: his wife Theresa "Terry" Appelt; his daughters, Gabriela and Marian Appelt; his granddaughter Tiffany Crawford (Stephen); his brother Ulrich Appelt (Christa); and his nieces and nephews, Jimm (Betsy), Tomm and Timm Grossmann (Rachael). He is also survived by 3 great grandsons, his nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. John Lutheran Church School & Kitchen project.
