He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ruth and Florence Ruth (Boyer); and his sister Marlene Youle. He is survived by: his daughter Lisa Lacey (Brent); his grandchildren, Riley of San Diego, CA and Cassidy Lacey of San Diego, CA; and his sister Sandra Klingenberg (Darwin) of Arkansas.

Memorial contributions may be made in Vernon's honor to Freedom Paws Service Dog Foundation, located in Chillicothe, IL, or Prairie Cardiovascular with multiple locations in Illinois.
