With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Edward Mateja (Gurnee, Illinois), whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Edward left this world on July 26, 2025 at the age of 95, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Mateja and Mary Mateja; his son David Mateja; his son-in-law Anthony Ceso; his stepdaughter Katherine Kerby; and his siblings, Stanley Mateja, Bernie Jenner and Theresa Morgan.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Mateja; his daughter Diana Ceso; his stepdaughters, Deborah Markus, Jacquelyn Benson (Larry) and Laura Schroeder (Patrick); and his siblings, Dennis Mateja, Vicky Nelson (Jim), Madelyn Anderson and Stella Walenter. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Gurnee Salata Funeral Home (4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL 60031). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 at the Ascension Cemetery (1920 W Buckley Rd, Libertyville, IL 60030).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis TN.
