He was predeceased by: his parents, James Elmer and Lora Mae McGinnis (Elders); his brother James William McGinnis (Elizabeth); his brother-in-law Paul Daugherty; and his aunt Peg Jeralds.

He is survived by: his wife Deborah Sue McGinnis; his son Michael McGinnis (Sherri); his grandson Zachary McGinnis; his sister Joyce Daugherty; his sibling's children, Jamie Pribble (Scott), Robin Daugherty and David Daugherty (Kerrie); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kailee McCroy (Aaron), Jordan Daugherty, Tylar Pribble (Daphne), Steven Knoob and Jared Daugherty (Chloe); his uncle William "Bill" Jeralds; and his close friend Louie.

Visitation was held on Sunday, November 16th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home (322 N Division St, Carterville, IL 62918). A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 16th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
