He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennie Gibbs and Eunice Etta Quillen (Hufsey); his siblings, Harry Weldon Gibbs, Mary Erler Pennell, Augusta Winders and Eula Patton; and his nephew Dennis Gibbs.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann Gibbs (Julian) of Herrin; his daughters, Cheryl Ninness of Carterville and Karen Ann McIntosh of Herrin; his grandchildren, Daniel Ninness, Jacob Ninness, Alyssa Lopez (Israel), John McIntosh (Julia) and Scott McIntosh; his great grandchildren, Eddy McIntosh, Kennison McIntosh, Aria Lopez and Noah Lopez; and his nieces and nephews, Leon Gibbs (Debbie), Hershel Weldon Patton (Sue), Sharon Reed (Gerry), Jeanette Saville (Bob) and Bennie Lee Patton (Tracy).
Visitation was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home (201 S 13th St, Herrin, IL 62948). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 6:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Sunday, August 30th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Empire Cemetery.
